In virtually all countries, nurses constitute the largest corps of health care professionals. They are the major health service providers in disaster relief, refugee camps and armed conflict situations. Nurses manage school and workplace health, bring primary care to street children and treat youngsters with serious illnesses. They facilitate a safe pregnancy and healthy birth, support peaceful death, care for the chronically ill, and are integral to the response in trauma and emergency situations.

Nurses are the glue that holds systems of care together. In many instances, and in many areas, nurses are the only regular, qualified health care providers available. And often, through their organizations, they are the conscience of the health care system. Here is how you can help.

Why Support FNIF and the International Council of Nurses?
For more than a century the International Council of Nurses (ICN) has had a major impact on nursing and health. Today, ICN membership includes national nursing associations in 129 countries and its influence extends to nursing in all countries. As the first and widest reaching international organisation for health professionals, ICN works to ensure quality care for all and sound health policies globally. Its standards are accepted globally as the basis for effective policy and practice, and its wide scope of work includes programs aimed at improving health policy, nursing care, regulation and working conditions for nurses.

FNIF is ICN’s premier foundation and raises funds to support ICN’s work. Nursing, through FNIF and ICN, has assumed its professional and ethical obligation to lead an effective response to current global health needs and challenges. Dynamic partnerships and financial resources are urgently required to underpin this crucial work.
